"The UC Berkeley-LBL HIPPI Networking Environment" Bruce A. Mah The XUNET 3 networking testbed will rely on HIPPI network technology for interconnecting equipment within the various testbed sites. The HIPPI network under construction in Berkeley will have a wide variety of hosts and other equipment attached. This heterogeneity, as well as the nature of HIPPI itself, presents some special challenges to network protocol implementation, particularly on those devices with non-standard architectures. In this talk we present the HIPPI environment at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. We also describe some of the devices to be connected to the network, such as the RAID II disk array, and discuss some of the issues which will need to be addressed in implementing the Tenet Real-Time Protocol Suite on these machines.
