Connection Rerouting Strategies for Mobile Networks Bruce A. Mah bmah@CS.Berkeley.EDU The Tenet Group University of California at Berkeley and The International Computer Science Institute The development of mobile communication and computing devices, which rely on wireless networking technologies, poses many new challenges for networking research. In this talk we will address the problem of maintaining communications in a real-time, connection-oriented hybrid wireless/wired network. We will present several algorithms for rerouting network connections as users move from cell to cell in a cellular or microcellular network. We will also give a short overview of the Infopad, a project in mobile computing and communications in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley. We will describe some applications of the Infopad system, and present our plans for applying our connection rerouting strategies to this environment.
